On racial equality and People’s Food Co-op

We have all experienced confusion, sadness and outrage since the killing of George Floyd last week. We saw violence boil from that injustice, but know that it did not start there – this country’s history of black oppression brought us to this place.

As a co-op we are locally owned – that means we can make meaningful change which has impact right here. Individually, we each reflect on our role of caring for others – for stopping bias behavior and for reckoning with our own biases. As a company, we can churn that individual energy into systematic change.

How? With actions that have impact, actions within our control. We can’t fix the world, but we can take concrete steps to change our own systems which oppress people of color in our community. We will make mistakes, and still collectively move toward equity, inclusion, and well being for all.
