PFC—Rochester Beer, Wine, & Spirits
You may have noticed some activity in People’s Food Co-op’s Rochester store. The former classroom and meeting room is now being converted into our new wine, beer, and spirits department.
The expected opening is November 11—if all the shelving and inventory make it by then. Grocery department manager Scott Weaver, says, “Expect a grand opening celebration the week after Thanksgiving.”
The space is about 700 square feet, and Scott is excited to present a wide selection of craft beers for People’s shoppers. PFC is working with Apollo Liquor in this new venture. “Apollo has been great helping us get set up with inventory,” Scott reports.
In a remarkable first, People’s will have the first beer and wine department of any food co-op in Minnesota. Scott is looking forward to featuring more organic and fairly traded wines than might be found in a local liquor store. He cites the Chilean wine Riojana in particular as a product he hopes to see at PFC—Rochester.
He’s also looking forward to the selection of craft beers on order. “I can’t believe how many different vendors we deal with—just for beer! I haven’t even gotten into the wine merchants yet. In produce, you don’t have this number of dealers.”
But for now his attention is more focused on getting all the shelving units installed and deliveries arranged for the store opening.
