World Fair Trade Day is officially May 10th. This year’s theme is World Fair Trade People. This theme celebrates the people behind fair trade—both producers and consumers. The Peoples Food Co-op is excited to bring the two together a day early by welcoming special guest Theojary Crisantes, President of Wholesum Harvest Family Farms. Located in Sinola, Mexico, Wholesum Harvest has organic and fair trade certified farms and greenhouses throughout various regions of Mexico. Together, with over 430 workers, Mr Crisantes and his family identified a variety of healthcare and educational needs in their respective communities. Through their fair trade premiums for community development, many needs have been addressed, but so much more can be done. Mr. Crisantes will discuss the real impact that consumers in our community have on family and children in his, and how we can be advocates simply by making responsible choices at the checkout lane.
